Golf is a game that people of just about all ages can enjoy. Plus, there’s nothing better than an early morning tee time in South Florida! Florida is a mecca for golf, during the summer temperatures are hot, but so are the prices. You can get a round or two in, just bring lots of refreshments! During the winter, prices are higher and the courses are more congested, but the weather is fantastic. In fact, I’m going to the pro shop later to get the new line of Mizuno golf equipment.
Here is another gem from YouTube. Actually, it has it’s origins on TV, but it’s easier to digest in this YouTube format, sans commercials. This is a video of the “Top Sports Blowups” 20-10. They aren’t in the top ten, but they are still hilarious. The best part about this video is the authentic anger of the players and coaches. I bet they now look at this list and shake their heads at their heat-of-the-moment behavior.
Last week, Phil Dawson faced a 52 yard field goal, which tested his limited range as a kicker. His Browns needed it to tie and go into overtime. With a career long of 52 yards, it was possible but not probable. Dawson drilled the kick solidly and straight, but it fell just short as time expired. The next week, he is faced with the same scenario: 51 yarder to tie the game. He gives it everything he has, and this time it just barely eeks by the upright. He later won the game in overtime.
There is hope to become a Major League Baseball pitcher even if you don’t have a great arm. Many pitchers have succeeded in the Majors without the benefit of a 95mph fastball. What’s their secret? The knuckleball. Boston pitcher Tim Wakefield is the only regular knuckleball pitcher in the Major Leagues, but he is unhittable when his pitch is working. The ball is thrown with no spin, so it is heavily influenced by factors like wind. This causes it to dance around the plate.
Does anybody watch the sport of boxing anymore? With more brutal sports coming to the forefront such as ultimate fighting, the focus on boxing isn’t as great. However, there is about to be a generation switch in the sport we should all talk about. The older generation now includes guys like Rahman and Holyfield. After these guys hang them up, the sport will be dominated by a new generation. Rahman hopes to capture the title for a third time after defeating Lennox Lewis earlier in his career for the belt. Then, he hopes his son can match that feat some years down the road, as he is an accomplished amateur fighter.
Do they even need an introduction anymore? In case you’ve been living under a rock the past few weeks and haven’t tuned in to ESPN, the Colorado Rockies are n an amazing tear. Not only did they have to win 14 of 15 to get into the postseason, they are now undefeated there. The Rockies swept the Phillies in the first round and did the same thing to the Arizona Diamondbacks en route to the World Series. It will be exciting to see if this team can cap off the amazing streak with a World Series win.
I thought It’d be a good idea to revisit this classic sports blowup moment from last year’s football season. Former Arizona Coach Dennis Green reacts after a disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears. This is one of the funniest moments in modern sport.
The race to the World Series is at it’s last step and it’s down to just four teams in professional baseball vying for the title. In the American League, the ALCS starts tonight. The pitching match slates two of the game’s finest starters in the Indians CC Sabathia and Boston’s Josh Beckett. Last night in the NLCS, the Rockies continued their amazing hot streak by shutting down the Diamondbacks 5-1. My prediction for the World Series is Colorado over Boston in six games.
The Yankees were unceremoniously dumped from the playoffs last night as the Cleveland Indians advanced to the ALCS. The blame could be shared by many on the Yankees squadron, but the focus will be on manager Joe Torre who didn’t meet his ultimatum from Steinbrenner. Will Joe live on to manage somewhere else or will he hang ‘em up as a Yankee? Only time and SportsCenter will tell.
I recently joined a fun Monday night league to improve my bowling game. The results are mixed so far, as I have had one decent week on top of three terrible ones. Four weeks into this thing I can tell it is going to be fun. On the rare occassion that I do have a good game, my high handicap will destroy the other team. I guess it’s a decent way to hone your competitive instincts while having a little fun all at once.
